rosy

Well Garden Gals and Guys , I have added some trellises and done some garden reorganizing and have room for some new roses. This one, Climbing Eden, made the cut.
Looking for ideas I drove to this cottage a couple towns away. Her garden is so dreamy.
I've been thru that arbor and given a thorough tour of her garden but that was a few years ago, so I whisked around like a hummingbird and took a lot of pictures with the smell of roses so heavy it sort of  made me drowsy.
I think that striped one might be rosa mundi.
I came home and started to paint  a lady with her prize hollyhock!
This one too. Belle of Portugal.
Here is a close up of Belle. Isn't she something? And grows well in California too.
Do you have a rose that is hardy and a favorite? Would be so interested to hear.
I'm waiting for my new kiln but will have a small listing tomorrow
I've got so many things to fire, I'm out of storage room!
I found this and decide to make another shadow box too. I'll find room........
xx julie

What lovely gardens--they would inspire me too! I love roses --especially the old heirloom varieties. I love the tiny fairy rose, such a lovely, soft pink, but so thorny! That's what they call it at the nursery - Fairy Rose. I love the name too!

You continue to amaze me, Julie. That shadow box is gorgeous!!!

I have wild roses that bloom once for two days (but smell heavenly) and I planted Morden Blush last year (still waiting to see if it survived the winter here).

I would love to plant David Austin's Winchester Cathedral (it has a honey almond scent) and Félicité Parmentier. Gorgeous roses!!!

Have a lovely one in the California sunshine today, Julie!
Hugs,
Lin

Oh your roses are just beautiful Julie......when we move later in the year or early 2015 I'll be taking cuttings of my favourites from my garden.
I have Camp David as a standard. It's dark red with a beautiful 'old world' perfume. It reaches up to the eaves, it's so happy in it's posi.......
Love your painting and your new header pic too. My Hollyhocks put on a great show in Summer, although the heat did knock them about, they were still lovely
Have a great weekend,

Dreamy and romantic garden! Wish I had the sun, but it is all hosta and fern for us, but there is something calming about a shade garden.
And my! Love the shadow box. perfect to show your characters and paintings. Reminds me just a little of a doll house. :)

Hi Julie! I really enjoyed the walk through your garden and that of your neighbor...oh my goodness dreamy!

Your lovely lady with her prize hollyhock is such a beautiful painting and so summery! Your new banner is marvelous and so is your amazing pottery.

I always feel like I've had a trip to a beautiful country cottage, sat down for some tea and had a nice chat in the sunshine whenever I visit your blog!

I love, love, love roses! BUT, I have planted many, over and over, and they always succumb to disease and insects, to my great sadness. I try try try. I find them so very hard to grow, sunny California must be the ticket!

Julie - what gorgeous gardens - and you captured that spring feeling in your painting of the lady with her hollyhocks.

I don't love roses -- I love seeing rose gardens, but I don't have any in my yard. My favorite is the peony -

Your shadow box is wonderful. Happy new kiln - now that's fun.

Beautiful roses and paintings! Oh, that shadow box is just so amazing - the wee strawberry and beehive corner pieces are such wonderful details. Hope you are enjoying your rose filled spring...

Julie, Great choice with Eden. Since it's my favorite climbing rose, I have six growing up the posts on my barn. They last so long as a cut flower too. Sometimes during the first bloom in spring the leaves can get kind of icky, but they'll outgrow that when the weather is drier and warmer. Love the shadow box! Alisa

I love the David Austin roses, especially Abraham Darby. It's hardy, disease resistant and gorgeous with oodles of petals and a lovely scent. In my hot Oklahoma summers, it's more on the pink/peachy side, but it may be more apricot in your neck of the woods.
