Flower Power

There are blooms everywhere around here. More than enough to make a crown of  them.

Scores to fill fields and hillsides,
And little vases.
A new painting of a lady planting out her annuals as her white dog and bird look on. There's someone else near the greenhouse too. Its called Ghost Garden.
I've been reading this book by Molly Peacock. Its about a lady who at 72 began to make paper collages of flowers, so exquisite and lifelike its difficult to tell they are paper. She invented the genre of paper collage and the book is fascinating as this all takes place in the 1770's.
yes. paper,

I'm having a listing in my shop this morning,
Badger is attending........

Happy June!

Your paintings always make me SO happy! I find them terribly inspirational! I most enjoy painting little scenes like you do but the galleries that represent me always want animal portraits. I often find myself straying from the sort of painting I want to do because of this and your paintings always remind me of what I need to be doing more of. Thank you for sharing your work! And that book looks beautiful, something I need to check out for myself I think :)

Lori, Yes! I often wear it because it seems to go with everything I own and because it keeps my painting wrist warm.....xx

Hello Julie! Such lovely new paintings and badger! I don't know how you get anything done with those gorgeous fields as a distraction! Thank you for sharing your current read. It's inspiring to know that age is no barrier to getting a start on a new genre of living a creative life!

Kimberly,
I bet you are just like me. When you paint what your heart tells you to, the painting flows out of you and into the brush that goes to the canvas because its what you want to say at the moment.
Thank you for your wonderful comment.xxx

The Paper Garden leaves me speechless, Julie, and that is just from the tiny glimpse you allowed us here on your blog! How much more heart-tugging beauty must the actual book be filled with.

The photo of the flower meadow is stunning; did you do anything to the colours to make it look that way?

Your artwork is enchanting as ever.

Love your paintings & all the beautiful detail - that sweet little white dog & weather vane ♥
And the cover of "Wild flowers of the chalk" - I noticed the writing on the flower jug "a present from Brighton" which is where I was born :-)
A beautiful post from beginning to end.

Where to start?......
Love your new header pic Julie. What a beautifully embroidered blouse, this girl is wearing and your lovely candle holder too .....♥
Your flower crowned lady is gorgeous, I wonder what she is thinking about?
The Ghost Garden painting is wonderful. I want to live in that house to dig in the garden, pick flowers, fruit and vegetables and sit back on that blue chair and admire all the beauty. Whoever purchased that painting has something very special indeed.
Molly Peacock's work is amazing, what an incredibly talented lady. I often think that everyone has a creative streak inside and they just have to tap into it. Goes to show that age is no barrier.....
Bluebird plate and Mr. Badger are delightful too.
So many wonderful things in this post.......

Hello Mr Badger!

I do believe spending a few days in your world would be simply perfect, Julie.

I have just popped over to Etsy to join your merry group of followers so that I may never miss a listing again.

Yet again I feel a little lost for words when endeavouring to express how much your paintings and ceramic creations touch me. The Ghost Garden could have belonged to my English grand-mothers... and a crown of flowers? Oh yes please!

Such a visually inspiring post Julie. I ADORE your paintings! You had asked about a fish on one of my posts, if it is a catfish. No, it's a koi. They get pretty huge, and the face does look like a catfish!

That field of poppies must be breath-taking. Did you ever read any of Gene Stratton-Porter's novels? She spoke so glowingly of Ca. and its beauties. I always loved her books. She was a great naturalist....and published a book or two on & about butterflies and birds...plus her fiction books which I to this day still hang on to. They are that good.
