Woodland visitor

I walked right up to a moose once. Being ten years old, I didn't have the sense to be scared, only amazed at the size of his gargantuan head and horns. How did those spindly legs hold them up? A few days ago, that would be a couple of great strides into fall, I had another woodland encounter. Only this time he wasn't in a parking lot in Montana, he was right in my front yard.
He blends in so well to the earth, it took a moment for me to become aware of him. He stood so close, I expected him to rear up, and braced myself to react if he charged. But he just stared steadily at me. That thatch of fur between his ears is the prettiest brown I've ever seen.

I slowly walked away and went back upstairs for my camera. I wanted you to see him too.

See how nicely he posed?

After twenty minutes and lots of clicking he stood

turned

and sauntered away. Good-bye Mister Magnificent.

Update as promised .

Lots of woodland things. I bet you can guess why.

Julie! Mr. Deer is truly wonderful! You know he was posing just for this blog, too. I could see it in his eyes. Did you show him that new teapot???

Yes, the new pieces are beautiful, as is that front door view. LOVE that scarf hanger and your blue porch ceiling.

As always, thanks for sharing your world with us.

Love, Liz

Beautiful! All of it - your encounter with the deer, that he waited so patiently for you to get the camera and take pictures, and of course your new woodland pieces. I love the jar with the cat on top of the lid, and the cat carrying the umbrella!

What a wonderful thing to have happen. Not only to see this magnificent creature up close but for him to make a connection with you enough to know that you wouldn't hurt him. That's rare. He is just beautiful... excuse me, handsome. Lucky you.
Maybe he's been there before. Checking out your pottery pieces, through a window and giving his approval.

Connie,
I almost walked right by him.
He is the exact color of the earth below his feet. All the shades of grey and brown were in his coat too.
Wish he'd return. Herds of does through but not many stags!

Hey Julie, what a wonderful visitor, so nice of him to pose for you.......
We have a few deer around here but they are rarely sighted. Kangaroos are more likely to be passing by, but a kangaroo wouldn't look quite as good on a teapot.....
Your new work is full to overflowing with woodland wonders, absolutely lovely. Makes me start hankering for Autumn......
Love the photo taken at your front door,so peaceful.
Blue skies and sunshine here today.

oh you've had guests!
A very smart and handsome guest too!
He must have heard you immortalized his lovely woodland neighbors in pottery and wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Word in the bushes is he was VERY impressed.

Julie, your pottery is fabulous. We have deer on the farm here and I could watch them for hours. If they would stay that long.

Have a wonderful week!

I always loved Cambria. Is there a restaurant called Robins? I love their tiramisu!

I live in Montana and our deer look different. I wonder what kind this one is?
