Where I work

As I step into my studio, this is what I see to my left. Its where my animal busts live until they migrate to a show or to Etsy. This week I have new members of the Association. There's a pricklepin, a wood mouse and a barn owl.

I found most of these old cabinet card frames on Etsy. They make nice windows for the animals to look through.

This is my desk and usually its loaded with clay plates and cups in various stages of drying, but I cleaned it off so you 'll think I'm tidy and diligent. (don't be fooled)

My inspiration board for fall. The photo of the sleeping doll with the stuffed animals waiting for her to wake up is the work of Rekecka Ryberg Skott. Her work is imaginative and always tells a story, plus her sense of color is wonderful.

This moblie is something new I am working on. Different small clay components, with beads, and even some sewing. All strung on waxed linen thread. I call them 'Good Omens'. That
piece of art in the background is by Cathy Cullis. I always ask for a piece of her work for my birthday from my husband, and as I write this, I think my newest gift should be flying over Maine about now.

my pottery tools

In the nineties, I owned a shop here in Cambria. Finnie McClure. I sold some antiques, old books, and things I made. But twice a week after closing I would drive to attend my pottery class. And soon, I couldn't think of anything but a life in clay. Still, i loved my little shop. This chalkboard hung right by the front door, and now it hangs in my studio. The words and colors are a little faded, but i won't erase it because I like the sentiment.

So there's more but isn't that enough of a tour for today? While i have your attention, I want to thank you for your comments, support and encouragment. Means the world..........

Oh, How I loved the tour. Felt like I was right there with you. I love the "Omens" They are wonderful. Great Idea !

And the sign from your shop. I remember it well...going into your shop was always a step into "the happy". I could be in a " not-so-good-mood", but after leaving Finne McClure ...I was wearing rose colored glasses.....

Hi Julie~ I loved the tour! I can see your beautiful heart in all that you do! Love the mobile! It's wonderful! I know I visited your shop in the 90s! I remember the chalkboards. (I love chalkboards.) I still lived in Santa Maria back then. We visited Cambria quite often. It's a charming place. I can see why you live there! Happy Day! ~Mandy

And well, as far as that sign goes...what can I say. I remember it well. If I was having a "not-so-great day" all I had to do was walk into Finne McClure..and out I'd come wearing rose colored glasses.......

Dear Julie-
The tour was delightful after a rainy, cold day here in New England.

Your studio is a wonderful place to create all of those JW pieces that we adore.

LOVE the new "Good Omens", I am leaving with a "happy heart".

It's been lovely having a peep at your studio Julie. The animal busts must make you feel like you always have company!

I have such a similar shelf to yours, with books and plates and other bits and pieces and will post a pic on my blog for you to see sometime in the not too distant future. BFN. Lesley x

sigh, i've tried in vain to leave a comment four times, with this blasted slow connection...
i love your studio and even the clean table, although i know deep in my heart that it isn't always that way and that relieves me greatly! (birds of a feather make a messy nest together).
your work is, as always, wonderful - as are you.
when is your birthday?!

I miss Finnie McClure!! I still have many little treasures from there and they always make me smile and think of you. I got my fall "things" out the other day and found my little pumpkin pillow..filled with sawdust and embroidered by you. A treasure.
Have a wonderful, creative weekend!

Your tour left me hungry for more. I want one of everything I saw. Your art just makes me happy. The thought of you putting your pottery together with fabric is great-I can't wait to see what happens.

Whit~~ My mind has imagined your studio and I have to say it's wayyy bigger that I ever thought. Seems I had you in a closet!! The omens are very wonderful...like a story on a string. Will be having to put it on my list of 'needs'. I sure did like hearing about your shop and the name! Where is the name from?? As the sun goes down it's getting chilly...off to shut some windows. xoxoxoxoxoxo mld

I saw your work years ago in a Victoria magazine and have been so happy to find you through Nina Bagley's blog. I'm desperate for one of your animal busts and wondered if you ever ship to Canada?

Neat space! Have you seen the "Where Women Create" publication? It's sold in Borders here in NC. All the "creation spaces" are so different. It's a neat little magazine. Your post made me think of it. I'll be back to visit!

This space seems like you; creative, charming and rather organized. It's beautiful. Love the chalkboard and "good omens"..., and those old plates. Oh, do I have a thing for old plates. \
You should submit this post to WHERE WOMEN CREATE. It's a Stampington & Co. publication. I just know that they would ask you to be contributor.

There is nothing in your Etsy shop. Looks like there was going to be a major run on your site. Maybe I got there too late.
