goodbye summer

When I stepped along to the place where I paint yesterday , an enormous yellow butterfly drifted by my head. That, I thought, could be the last one I see for awhile. So I abandoned the idea of painting fox on a picnic and painted the butterfly instead.
Good bye to late suppers with wonderful peeps like Duane and Amber~
They live to beachcomb and find the best shells.
Beach combing is a serious sport around here. The birds are always at it.
All summer I made this to quaff; water lots of ice and fresh mint, cucumber and lime. Plus you can eat the contents along the way of drinking it!
Donkey will miss the picnics

But there are compensations

Fall vegetables

bittersweet gathering

a favorite fall hat

Cambria Scarecrow festival, there are over two hundred all over town. American Gothic Cambria style in front of the Art Center.

A little sanderling having a fall feast
Summer is flying away, but she brings such beauty in her wake.
Here is your special seat to watch it all~
xx julie

Lots of early color here... and beauty... though it is hard to say goodbye to the garden as we do really have to let it all go here in the Northeast! I love the idea of the scarecrow festival, the decorated cow festivals that seem to pop up everywhere are really not that interesting - seen one painted cow, you've almost seen them all!

Lovely things gathering in your studio. Oh, and I just remembered after I let the cat out in the early morning, I sat down with my coffee and notice a most amazing orange moth on my foot. I walked to the door and outside, all the while carrying the little moth on my toe. It needed a bit of coaxing to get going, but finally it flew off.

Happy autumn!

Thanks for you comments, you sweeties. And Valerianna, an orange moth, I don't think I've ever seen an orange one!

The view of the sea is so wonderful - I too am a shell gathering beach comber whenever the opportunity arises! Your pottery is so very pretty. We have a lot of moths here - being next to the woods, I have to close windows at night because if there is just one light on in the house they will cover the window outside, but also fly in - and I mean a lot of them! if it was butterflies I wouldn't mind so much!

Love the picture of the dinner table! The fall vegetables are beautiful, but the strawberry seems a bit odd among them, at least where I live (strawberries are at their best here in June and July, sometimes starting as early as the end of May).

Dear Julie,

You made such beautiful things! Your butterfly lady looks very sweet and the cup and your vegetables too!

Hope you are having some beautiful fall weather, like we are having in Holland!

My special seat for now is here, watching what you post and create! Your post is gorgeous, your plate with the woman with wings I believe is me...right? Flying away, and I will return in the spring...hehe, and the warm weather, because here, the weather is turning cool, and then cold.

Oh! I love sitting on that bench overlooking the ocean, our favorite spot in Cambria. :)

Adore your butterfly and donkey plates and besotted with your charming bittersweet gathering and acorn handled mug. So delightful.

Georgie is poorly today and at the doctors, we'd be lost without him!

Happy weekend to you and your dear ones!

I wish you the most beautiful autumn, Julie.

Just a small question: should I email you with a commission request? Perhaps you are too busy?

Each visit here brings me the perfect dose of enchantment, Julie, thank you.

Oh, lovely pics and thoughts Julie. Each new season brings its own special beauty........ great to see it inspiring your work.
Love all the Autumn/Fall colour and that wonderfully, rustic bench overlooking the ocean. Perfect place to sit and dream.....
As we head into warmer weather I love the idea of a refreshing cold drink. Shall have to remember this when the temps rise........my pot of mint is overflowing at the moment, so it will be put to good use.
Another wonderful visit into your world.....

Summer is holding on in Alabama, tightly, while fall tries to find a place. Acorns landing on green grass, colorful leaves scorched by the sun. Your words are as beautiful as your paintings. I always enjoy when I stop in for a visit. I am hoping to one day buy a piece of your pottery so I will always feel like I am in for a visit. Katey

Hi Julie! I don't know how this post slipped by me! Yes I do, too much work - that's how, must stop that! : )

Your butterfly plate is beautiful & I especially love the raised leaf.

Your luncheon table looks great, how lucky is that couple to be seated at your table! I also love seeing your kitchen.

If I parked my butt on that oceanside bench, I think it would take root, what a view!

Have a happy week!
