snow flurries

Its snowing in there.
When I saw an article on Martha Stewart.com explaining how to make snow globes, I made a few figures .
After all I grew up on snow globes like these above, all from California. (From an antique website)
So I went out and found supplies, distilled water and isopropyl alchohol too;
I rushed back home
washed a jar
When the figures were glued on lid (roughened up with sandpaper to make glue stick) I waited 24 hours and added the ingredients to the jar; Filled nearly full with the distilled water, a dollop of glycerine and another of the alchohol and a tablespoon of glitter. I shook it, definately the best part.
Here's another one drying. Now when I go to the grocery store, I can't keep away from the bottled goods section. I'm looking for a more globe type shape. I think I'll have good luck in the orange marmalade section.
Hope you all have a thrilling Thanksgiving!

My mum used to collect snow globes until her shelves nearly burst with them; now they are still on display in her bedroom but she has begged us all not to add anymore to her collection :-)
You are the only person I know who makes their own snow globes!
Love the little plate with the fox and the ilex around it.

Snow globes! Quintessential childhood memories. My daughter's ADULT flute teacher collects them.

That book looks so alluring and, oh, please can we have another look inside?

Many warm thoughts drifting across the sea to you from France.

loveliest loveliness Julie!
how much fun to eat all that jam to get those bonne mama jars. i love those jams any ways and collect those jars. i have been wondering to create snowglobes myself, but i am afraid i would not find those ingredients for it, and maybe i am too lazy to try because i can not just use glue, glitter and tap water. *hah*.

Hey Julie, what fun making snow globes, they look wonderful.

I love the shape of Bonne Maman jars. Unfortunately, I've never seen them in supermarkets here.............

Now, that autograph book and your beautiful painting, that really is something else...........

Oh Julie they are enchanting. Made me think of Mr. Tumnus in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, wandering through the snowy forest with his muffler round his neck.

Your snow globes are so sweet! I just love everything you make.
Some of the mustard jars have rounded shapes that might be fun to work with.

What a wonderful idea. Your figures are perfect for a snow globe.
I would love to see more in some different glass jars. It's just a great idea.
I remember those old California snow globes. Wish I still had some. I think I had some 1950's globes from Disneyland. Now they are in antique stores for way more money. Aaggh...

Oh what a brilliant idea for your little figures. I remember having a little snow globe of the nativity scene as a child and never tired of shaking it to make it snow!

It's always thrilling around here... You really must go to France - the plethora of glass containers is mind boggling. As one on the lookout for new watercolor containers it's a goldmine. For your purposes it would be like winning the lottery!

This is SUCH an exciting idea! I love snow globes, and also little scenes in a jar (last year I made a tiny reindeer snow scene in a jar), but I never thought of actually MAKING a snow globe! It does help though that you have your own adorable little pottery figures to put in it and make it especially charming. I hope you find the perfect globe shaped jar you are seeking. xx

I love snow globes! In fact, hmmm...I have an almost empty jar of Bon Maman strawberry preserves in the fridge right now. Guess I know what I'm having for breakfast! Thanks for following along on my Vienna trip!

Haai Julie,

Thanks so much for the inspiration. I immediately used it in my childrencourses. Yesterday the first few were ready and the children were sooo happy with it. I'll post a little video on my flickr photostream, in honour of you. I hope you enjoy! Happy holidays!
