Mushroom Town

Trek far to the north,
lope uphill, then down;
When the woods turn thick
You're in Mushroom Town.

In winter there's a feast,
to mark the Christmas time;
Each creature brings a gift,
of food or song, or wine.

Mr. Leif Green
a culinarious fox
brings watercress soup,
and a silver snuffbox.
He loudly recites
a Shakespeare sonnet,
as he sips the soup
and pours sherry on it.
He gulps, he slurps,
his eyes shine green,
he's the shockingest diner
you've ever seen.

Tawny rabbits
in vest and pants
sing Christmas carols
and Gregorian chants

Greyish Wolf
will bring a pie,
if you like chicken,
please stop by.
Greyish ventures
out by night
and shops for fowl
by lantern light.
I'm quite appaled
that wolf has crashed,
(he wasn't asked)

There is a chair
saved just for you,
Please bring more tarts
and acorns too.
Squirrel will seat you
in a chair of green,
There's badger and donkey
and you in between.
The table's brimming
the candle's bright
O Merry Christmas
O Holy Night.

Update this weekend
xx

Julie!!! What a delightful post. I have looked at it all 3 times, sooo much to see and enjoy. And the poem is the best! What a poet you are, my dear.

Love all the animals, and the mushrooms, and the teeny tiny cup with the tree. Your tree with the face is beautiful, too!

I'm on my way, bringing the acorns. There are tons from New England this year!

Thank you for this wonderful showing of all of your new pieces.

xoxo Liz

What a charming party. i wish I could make myself very small and join in on all the fun.
I have lots of acorns this year (doesn't this mean a long heavy winter?) and I can bring some beautiful leaves for placemats or plates.
See you in Mushroom Town..... what a wonderful post.

Hey Julie,I am gobsmacked by all the delightful characters in your post and your lovely prose. I would love to join in the dinner, but please don't seat me by Mr. Leif Green. Whilst foxes have some likeable attributes (most unlikeable) I don't think I could endure his boorish behaviour and bad table manners..............
I will bring some raspberry tarts as we are having a bumper crop this season. Better start my journey now, wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun.
I too love the picture of the mug on your header, absolutely gorgeous.
