from earth and sky

Butterflies seem like heavenly creatures as they drift by.

Their tumbling through my garden makes me remember those who have passed off earth and sea, as William wrote in his beautiful cursive  in this autograph book from 1882.
Sometimes when I see one, I feel a presence; my mother close by
or my dog running in the sky
It makes me happy to be reminded of them.

of my friend flying through the wildflowers like a bird
To know as long as I am here and remember them, they are here too.  Loved.

October with its glorious color and changing light is the perfect time for these musings don't you think?
Wishing you a wild and happy Halloween~
xx

  2. A beautiful and poignant post - the feeling of the presence of those who have left us is very real. My thoughts today have echoed these musings, maybe it is indeed the time of year.
The photos are all amazing, but the one of the butterfly - or moth? - in the goldenrod is just stunning.
Love your pottery, your blog -

  11. Julie,
Butterflies are indeed sparks to the memory. Six years ago I got news that the husband and son of a dear friend had just died in a plane crash. I was paralysed with anguish. I went outside and wandered in a daze only to be brought to a sense of perspective and hope when pestered by the most beautiful butterfly. It was only when I could really focus on this tiny being that I was able to connect with the world again. Thanks for a great post - again!

  28. Lovely post as always Julie! I have to share with you that I wore my most favorite Julie W. story bracelet yesterday, and much later in the day I realized it wasn't on my wrist. Well, I just was horrified and ready to cry. I checked the obvious places like my car and around my house. I called a couple of places I had been, no luck. I felt so so sad to lose it. Then, a sweet little girl from the restaurant I had been to hours before called and she had found it. YIPPEE!! Happy ending for Little Red Riding Hood and me. I just LOVE that little bracelet!
