from the heart

This is Lori. Stellar photographer, wonderful knitter, and all around the kind of person who its good to know is walking the earth. Lori has a great blog.

This is acrylic and a little bit of oil pastel on canvas, 8x10. I primed the canvas with burnt sienna, then drew in the face with charcol and began to add the layers of paint.
The bird is a roller, from Africa. Lori's favorite bird.

I learned that if you paint things that mean something to you it adds to the still life.

So here is my favorite glass, one of my cafe au lait bowls and the last of the summer peaches.

The geranium blossom is from my mother's garden, and now is rooting in a flower pot!

We went to Santa Barbara for my birthday. Yes, its really this gorgeous




After the museum we stopped in at the ultimate grocery store, Lazy Acres. Can you even believe this produce section?

    I like the idea of using pieces in still life pictures that have some meaning to you. Adds to the whole look and feel of the painting..........

    oooooh julie. i've come back and forth here several times, having a peek and then clicking away quickly (was speechless). i'm just beyond thrilled, you know how i feel about your work, your paintings, but this, i hope it's okay to say, is my favorite. i think you did a stunning job, i love everything about it.

    thank you for your kind words,and this painting, i am sure this is one of the most special things to ever happen to me.

    and of course your still life is beautiful, i love the colors and all your latte bowls, including a part of your mother with that plant is so very special.

    If only the produce in our supermarket looked even half as good, and what a wonderful name, Lazy Acres. It sounds more like somewhere to go on holiday or retire to, not somewhere to fill the pantry.

I like the idea of using pieces you own and love in paintings...(I once painted a little jug of mine, the first piece of vintage china I bought as a student).     the Winsor & Newton box is in great condition for its age.
